The Ministry of Education has taken steps to introduce English
as the medium of teaching of all three subject streams leading
to the General Certificate of Education, Advanced Level (G.C.E.
A/L) in 53 selected schools islandwide.
Accordingly students will have the option to study Arts and
Commerce subjects in English. Earlier, this was an opportunity
only available to those studying in the Science stream.
The Minister of Education, Susil Premajayantha has directed
relevant officials to provide necessary facilities to selected
schools for this purpose.
Twelve Schools from the Western Province, eight from the Central
Province, seven each from the Southern and North Western
Provinces, eight from Sabaragamuwa, four from Uva and four from
the North Province were chosen by the Ministry in which to
introduce this scheme.
