Foreign Minister, Rohitha Bogollagama hosted a breakfast meeting
for a cross party group of Parliamentarians on 13th May on the
sidelines of his participation in the Commonwealth Ministerial
Action Group (CMAG) meeting in London. The following attended -
The Rt. Hon. Lord Naseby, Co-Chair of All Party Parliamentary
Group on Sri Lanka, Mr. Andrew Love - Labour MP, Mr. Andrew
George - Lib Dem MP, Dr. Liam Fox - Conservative MP, Mr. Stephen
Hammond - Conservative MP & Brian Binley - Conservative MP
Some of the parliamentarians who have recently visited Sri Lanka
shared their impressions particularly on their visits to the
North & East. They were appreciative of the government’s
facilitating travel to these areas and also giving them an
opportunity to meet with a wide range of groups/parties
representing all communities.
The Parliamentarians were particularly keen to learn about the
recent provincial elections in the Eastern Province and. He
emphasised that the government was keen to strengthen democracy
in the East and to ensure that the people’s representatives
could carry forward development initiatives aimed at empowering
the people. |
